Confidential CAD Files: Privacy and File-Handling Questions
Answer
For a confidential design, review the AIHFABS Privacy Policy and confirm your project-specific file-handling requirements with the team before uploading. If you need an NDA, restrictions on who can access the model, or a defined retention period, ask the team to confirm those terms first.
What should I confirm before uploading a sensitive model?
Describe the confidentiality requirements without attaching the sensitive file first. Identify the project, the people or organizations allowed to receive the model, and any restrictions on its use. Share only the geometry and drawing information needed for the agreed review.
What if my project requires an NDA?
Tell the team about the NDA before sharing the design. Confirm the parties, permitted purpose and any restrictions on subcontractor access or onward sharing. Do not assume an NDA has been agreed simply because a file can be uploaded.
How do I ask about retention or deletion?
Ask which files and associated records would be retained, for what purpose and for how long. For a deletion request, identify the relevant order or upload reference and confirm the scope and any applicable retention requirements with support. Avoid sending another copy of the sensitive model just to identify it.
Where can I review the published privacy information?
Read the Privacy Policy for published information about data handling and contact options. Ask the team to clarify any project-specific requirement that is not covered there before deciding whether to upload your CAD files.
