Design details: Decorative Metal Leaf Ornaments
Two leaf-shaped ornaments combine thin stems, rounded outlines and elongated openings. Their open patterns make the edges visible from several directions, so finishing consistency matters on both faces.
Thin leaf sections can be sensitive to support removal and finishing pressure. Review the stem-to-leaf junction and define the intended edge feel without polishing away the narrow bridges around the openings.
Features to review on a similar design
- Inspect thin stems and joining sections
- Deburr edges around every opening
- Support the leaf during polishing to limit distortion
Metal additive manufacturing review
Metal laser powder-bed fusion can produce curved passages and open structures that are difficult to machine from a solid block. A production plan must also address support removal, powder evacuation, stress relief or other required heat treatment and secondary machining. Choose the alloy from the operating environment and specify critical datums and inspection methods. Surface appearance alone cannot confirm alloy, density, leak tightness or qualification for an aerospace or pressure application.
Explore process capabilities and material optionsPolishing considerations
Polishing should be localized around the features that need a smoother appearance. Thin ribs, small openings and sharp decorative edges can lose definition if too much material is removed. For enclosed or lattice geometry, agree which surfaces can be reached and use a visual reference to define the finish.

Upload a STEP file for solid geometry or a high-resolution STL/3MF mesh for sculptural forms. Include overall dimensions, quantity, intended use and the faces or details that matter most. Add a drawing for mating interfaces and a color or finish reference for visual models. AIHFabs can review the geometry and manufacturing options before production.
