Materials library

3D printing and CNC machining materials

Match the part to a process first: additive resins, nylons, and metal powders, or CNC mill stock in metals, wood, and engineering plastics.

AIHFABS keeps both catalogs on one platform. Open a family page to scan grades, abilities, and finishing, then upload the same CAD for a dated quote.

What is an on-demand materials library

An on-demand materials library is a live catalog of printable and machinable grades — not a warehouse you have to empty. You pick the process family, compare ability and properties, then print or mill only the lot you need.

That is how AIHFABS quotes work: one file can price SLA resin, SLS nylon, SLM metal, or CNC aluminum. You lock the material after you see lead time and finish, instead of sending a second RFQ.

Choose 3D printing or CNC materials

Each landing holds the full catalog for that process family. Use the chips to jump to a material group.

How to pick a material

Start with the job, then the process, then the grade. The quote confirms envelope, finish, and date.

  1. Name the job

Visual model, clip, heat shield, or production face — cosmetics, load, and temperature decide the family.

  2. Pick additive or subtractive

3D printing for lattices and short-run plastics or metals. CNC when stock properties and tight faces matter.

  3. Scan the catalog

Filter by resin, nylon, metal powder, or mill stock. Each card lists ability, properties, and finishing.

  4. Quote the same file

Upload STEP, STL, or 3MF once. Compare grades and lead times before you order.

Why on-demand materials help

Keep the model in a library. Reprint or remachine when the revision changes — no obsolete stock.

  • No minimum lot Order one piece or a short run. Change the file between batches without tooling.
  • Process and grade on one quote Resin, nylon, metal powder, and CNC stock share the same upload path.
  • Lead time on the line Dates stay with the material you accept, not a later email thread.
  • Finish in the same ticket Dye, vapor smooth, anodize, or machine critical faces without a second RFQ.
  • Industrial grades only Shop materials that match the process pages — not hobby filament dumped into a cart.
  • Less leftover stock Print or mill the lot you need. Powder beds recycle unused powder; CNC starts from standard stock.

Industries that specify these materials

The same catalog covers fixtures, housings, heat-resistant metal, and display parts.

Industrial equipment

Jigs, ducts, and replacement covers in nylon or machined aluminum.

Consumer products

Visual resins, dyed nylons, and clear acrylic for models and short-run housings.

Automotive and mobility

Heat-resistant resin, glass-filled nylon, and SLM or CNC metals for brackets and ducts.

Medical and lab

High-detail resin and machined plastics for fixtures, jigs, and non-implant prototypes.
