Milling, turning, 5-axis, Swiss, and large-part CNC — tight-tolerance metal and plastic parts quoted from one CAD file.
Use this landing to choose the CNC path that matches your geometry. Each child page covers machines, materials, tolerances, and design notes.
A cutter removes stock from plate or bar along a programmed toolpath until the remaining metal or plastic matches the CAD.
Upload STEP (preferred) with critical dimensions called out on the drawing or in the file.
Pick milling, turning, 5-axis, Swiss, or large-part based on the geometry.
Choose alloy, finish, and inspection level on the quote.
We machine, inspect, and ship. Dates and extras stay on the quote line.
CNC machining is subtractive manufacturing. Mills, lathes, and routers cut production alloys and engineering plastics from known stock. The process holds threads, bores, and mating faces that most as-printed parts cannot hold without a secondary operation.
On AIHFABS you upload STEP (preferred) once. The quote maps milling, turning, 5-axis, Swiss, routing, or large-part work to the same geometry, then adds anodize, blast, or inspection on that ticket.
Most jobs start on milling or turning. 5-axis and Swiss cover compound angles and small, slender parts. Routing and large-part pages sit in the list below.

Turning for revolved parts from bar; milling for prismatic parts from plate. Use 5-axis when undercuts or compound angles would take too many setups.
Conventional CNC is typically ±0.05–0.10 mm; precision and Swiss pages list tighter grades. Drawing callouts override typical values.
Yes. Aluminum and steels are the volume work; POM, nylon, and PEEK are common plastics. Materials are listed on each process page.
Stock volume, machine time, setups, and finish drive the total. Simple prototypes often start around $35–$80; 5-axis and large parts are quoted to the file.
